It was the height of the pandemic in 2020 when Chantal and Michael first matched on Tinder. After chatting for a few days, Chantal invited Michael over to watch a live stream from her favourite comedy club The Stand. After some initial amusement at Michael bringing an entire bag of lemons and limes to garnish their gin and tonic's they settled into their first date. From the moment they started chatting that night, the conversation just seemed to flow effortlessly. They ended up chatting for hours, losing track of time as they got to know each other.
Eventually Chantal fell asleep as they cuddled up in front of the fire, watching a show neither of them can remember. Michael being the gentleman he is abruptly left without saying anything, making sure to put a blanket over Chantal and lock the door behind him. Chantal was a little sad when she woke up, wondering if she had offended him by dozing off. But to her delight Michael came back 15 minutes later. Turns out he just isn't great at picking up on subtle social cues! She thought it was endearing that he was so engaged in their conversation he didn't even realize she was tired.
They continued to message daily after that, and soon progressed to more in-person dates together before unofficially moving into Michael's flat together.
When their third real date came around, Chantal offered to drive Michael to an open house he had wanted to check out. It was a brand-new home, move-in ready. It seemed perfect for him right from the start. Michael put in an offer that very day. When it was accepted, he was suddenly a homeowner - and Chantal couldn't have been more excited for him!
A few weeks later, Chantal's parents happened to be moving and Michael spent a week helping them pack up and move their belongings. Chivalry isn't dead after all! It certainly helped earn him a few bonus points.
They spent time decorating their new home. It will forever hold a special place in their hearts as their first home. Their love grew deeper as they settled into domestic life together. Long nights building IKEA furniture and painting walls making for cherished memories.
To celebrate, they sabred open a bottle of champagne... or a few. As they looked around at the home they would share, it just felt meant to be. They were destined to be together.
In January, they decided to make it official by adopting the cutest pandemic puppy, Pepper. She was the perfect addition to their little family and continues to make the couple so incredibly happy.
Then, on the eve of their one year first date anniversary, Michael surprised Chantal with a proposal that saw her lost for words (not an easy task!) He decorated the hallway of their home with a beautiful wall of photos from throughout their year together. As Chantal took it all in, Michael got down on one knee and popped the question. Of course, she said yes!
Now here they are, 4 years after that fateful first date, excitedly planning their wedding and continuing their love story on to the next chapter as soon-to-be husband and wife. They can't wait to see what adventures their future will hold!
